Paul Osbaldiston

Athlete (Professional) | 2026

Paul Osbaldiston was one of the most prolific and consistent kickers in the history of the CFL, and one of the most recognizable Hamilton Tiger-Cats of all time.

He started his football career at Norkam High School in Kamloops before going on to play for Montana Western University in 1982 and then with the CJFL’s Richmond Raidres from 1983 to 1985.

Paul’s professional career began with the BC Lions, who drafted him in the 7th round (63rd overall) in 1986. In his rookie season he played in three games with the BC Lions before being released, five games with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before being released again, before being picked up by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he appeared in nine games and would go on to earn a Grey Cup ring in the process.

Hamilton would become a permanent stop for Paul.

He was awarded the Dick Suderman Trophy for Top Canadian in the 1986 Grey Cup game for tying the record for most field goals (6) in a Grey Cup.

Over 18 years in Hamilton, Paul was a seven-time CFL Division All-Star (1989, 1990, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001), and a three-time All-Canadian (1996, 1998, and 1999). He captured the Lew Hayman Trophy as the Top Canadian in the CFL East in 1990. He also is tied for the CFL record for most field goals in a regular season game (8).

Paul would win a second Grey Cup with the Tiger-Cats in 1999.
