Bob Ackles was a giant in the world of football, especially in British Columbia, but without the love and support of his beloved wife of 48 years, Kay Ackles, his success story in football would never have been shared.
Kay was with Bob every step of the way in his journey traversing the football world from the CFL to the NFL to the XFL, beginning and ending with their beloved BC Lions.
At each step of the way, Kay played important behind-the-scenes role, and was especially invested in ensuring staff felt like part of a family—their family. She planned and organized countless staff events, and also dedicated her time to bringing more women into the game by providing football education sessions.
After Bob’s untimely death in 2008, Kay continued to be involved in the football community not only as a director of the BC Football Hall of Fame – Bob’s legacy project – but also hosting the BC Lions’ team suite for many years and supporting amateur football initiatives across the province.
