Although best known for his hockey broadcasting career with Hockey Night in Canada and the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, Jim Robson maintained a keen interest in the BC Lions.
Jim first joined CKWX Radio in Vancouver in the mid-1950s, after broadcasting stops in Port Alberni and Nanaimo, having been hired by Sports Director Bill Stephenson, who was also the play-by-play voice of the BC Lions. Jim would also take his turn doing play-by-play for the Lions.
Jim covered all sorts of sports, including the Vancouver Mounties baseball team, the WHL Vancouver Canucks, as well as providing daily reports on the BC Lions.
When Bob Ackles returned to the BC Lions in the early 2000s, he and his wife arranged an annual luncheon with Jim and his partner, Bea, as well as Bernie and Judy Pascall. These gatherings continued on for several years with plenty of CFL and BC Lions discussions.
Jim joined the BC Football Hall of Fame’s media category selection committee at the invitation of Bernie Pascall, media chairperson. He took great pride in the nomination and voting process and attended many of the BCFHOF’s induction events and took part induction presentations as well.
Jim regularly attended BC Lions games and functions on behalf of the BC Football Hall of Fame and would always look for ways to promote the club and the hall.
Jim passed away in February 2026.
