Jay Prepchuk began his football career in Grade 7 with the GSL. At Handsworth Secondary (1975–1979), he excelled at both defensive back and quarterback before moving on to Simon Fraser University, where he played quarterback (1979–1982). Drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1983, Jay attended training camp before joining the Vancouver Meralomas.
Jay’s coaching career is equally remarkable. Beginning at RC Palmer Jr. Secondary in 1983, he went on to coach at Vancouver College (1984–1985) before taking over as Head Coach at Windsor Secondary (1987–1999), winning three AA provincial championships (1995, 1997, 1998). He later served as UBC Head Coach (1999–2001), was a guest coach with the BC Lions (2001), and returned to Windsor before becoming Handsworth’s Head Coach (2002–2017), where he won another AA Championship in 2007.
Jay also served as Quarterbacks Coach at UBC (2017–2019) and SFU (2021–2023). Beyond schools, he has coached numerous BC provincial teams, runs quarterback camps, and is a member of the BC Touch Football Hall of Fame.
