Javier Glatt was a four-year varsity letterman and a two-defensive co-captain (2000, 2001) starring for the UBC Thunderbirds.
He initially came to UBC in 1999 on a two-sport athletic scholarship for football and baseball
In 2000, Javier led the Canada West Conference in total tackles with 79 as well as the longest interception return at 103 yards (October 11, 2002, versus Regina). He set three school records during his Thunderbirds career – total tackles in a game with 15 (vs. Regina on October 21, 2000), solo tackles in a season with 79 (2000), and most fumbles forced in a season with four (2002).
Javier’s university career would see him named a Canada West all-star three times and a CIS All-Star three times (2000, 2001, 2002). He concluded his time at UBC finishing with 242 tackles, including 9 tackles for a loss, 5 quarterback sacks, 3 interceptions, and 3 pass break-ups. As a testament to his athleticism, he also played snaps on offence and returned kickoffs in 2002.
Javier would translate his university success into an equally successful profession career. He was drafted in 2003 by the BC Lions and played eight seasons and 143 games with the Lions, recording 444 tackles, 14 sacks, and 11 interceptions (including one for a 56-yard touchdown).
In 2006, as a starter, he would help the BC Lions capture the Grey Cup. His goal-line stand preserving a BC lead late in the Grey Cup game against Montreal remains one of the all-time great BC Lions plays of all time.
Javier was also heavily involved in the community during his time with the Lions and has continued to be involved after his playing career. He helps coach youth soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and baseball in the Tri-Cities area.
