From 1960 to 1981, Don Barker had a great impact on players and officials alike as a game official, Director of Officiating, and as a member of the Rules Committee. During his involvement in the league, he appeared in 390 regular season and playoff games and an amazing 10 Grey Cups.
With a desire to improve the league, he developed a comprehensive and extensive system based on performance for recruiting, training and evaluating officials and also developed the mechanics for seven man officiating crews. After 21 years as a game official, he fittingly joined the CFL office as Director of Officiating and provided the league his expertise and experience in the development of officials and extensive review of the rules. In 1999 Don Barker was inducted as a builder in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame for his contributions to the league.
